Dinner dates at restaurants are always nice, but they are so overdone. Plus, it’s hard to eat well when you dine out all the time. Whether it’s date #1 or date #2000, think outside the box a bit when it comes to your dates this month. The experience may be more meaningful, and it’s a great way to explore each other’s interests. Check out our 10 tried and true date ideas that we personally love. We tested these all in the name of research of course!

1) Farmers market

There’s something romantic about strolling through beautiful, freshly picked produce on a weekend morning. It’s a great conversation starter as well as a perfect set up for spending all day enjoying each other’s company if you so choose. Pick up some food to cook dinner in, and the date will last much longer than planned!

2) Bike ride to coffee

Skip the Starbucks drive-thru this time, and make the journey there the majority of the date. You can go on a long road ride together if that’s your thing or hop on your beach cruisers and enjoy a relaxed ride to your favorite coffee spot. This is a perfect date for early risers.

3) Hike

Hiking is the ideal way to multi-task: enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and still be able to chitchat. Someone smart once said, “It’s impossible to walk in the woods and be in a bad mood at the same time.” Take advantage of that positive energy to connect with someone you care about.

5) Cooking class

No matter where you live, someone is close by wanting to share their love of food with you. Let them. It is so much fun to learn something new as a couple, especially when it involves eating at the end. We took a homemade pasta class, but go for anything that tickles your fancy.

6) Dance lesson

Even if one of you has two left feet, taking a dance lesson together is sure to lead to some laughs. We tried tango lessons, but quickly realized that it takes decades of practice to look like this. Maybe country line dancing, salsa or even zumba is more your thing. Don’t overthink it; just go have some fun.

7) Walk the dog

Perhaps the two of you share a love of four-legged friends? This is such an easy date that it can be totally spontaneous. Even if you don’t own a pet, many cities offer the opportunity to walk foster dogs on the weekends. Everyone wins!

8) Meal delivery service

There are several new companies out there that deliver every single thing you need to make a gourmet meal to your doorstep. The recipes are usually easy, but complex enough to be worthy of a date night. Spend some time together in the kitchen creating a nourishing meal to enjoy together. Here is a list of the top services to try in the Bay Area.

9) Snowshoe or ice skate

If you have access to the snow, try snowshoeing for a fun outdoor date. Bundle up and enjoy the walk. Even the warmest cities have pop-up ice skating rinks in the winter. Ice skating is a great excuse to hold hands… and to laugh at each other as you both wipe out.

10) Adventure race

Okay, okay – we know this may be a little hard core for the average couple. That’s why we left it for number ten. However, if a little dirt and hard work is up your alley, we can’t think of a better way to spend a few hours bonding.
