Tell somebody you’re a dietitian and tons of assumptions flood their mind. Dietitians are often stereotyped as robots who only eat the healthiest foods and judge people about their food choices. We are here to clear the air. Here are some things you may be surprised to know about our dietitians.

1) We don’t judge your (or anybody’s) food choices.

We aren’t the food police and we recognize that there are a variety of factors at play every time you decide what to eat. Chances are, if you’re eating near us, the only thing we’re thinking about is how good your food looks and whether it’s appropriate for us to snag a bite.

2) We don’t offer unsolicited advice.

With widespread knowledge at our fingertips, these days everybody has an opinion about the latest food craze and they aren’t afraid to tell you that the banana you are eating is making you fat. We don’t want to add to the noise and prefer to encourage those around us in whatever nutrition goals they are pursuing. If people ask, we’re here to help!

3) We don’t recommend cookie cutter diets (or diets at all).

To us your “diet” is the way that you typically eat. Therefore we all have a diet. Our job is to teach you to eat in a way that works for your body to reach your goals.

4) Not only do we also love pizza and burgers, we eat them too!

Don’t worry, we are human. And let’s be real, pizza and burgers just taste good. The “perfect” diet doesn’t exclude fun foods.

5) We have interests outside of food and nutrition.

Sure, we love to eat and we think we have the best job in the world. But when it’s time to rest, we don’t turn on the latest food documentary and when we socialize, we want to talk about other things.

6) We won’t ask you to give up your favorite food.

We will teach you how to enjoy your favorite food in a healthy way #winwin

7) Yes, we do actually like vegetables and other healthy foods and we love helping other people enjoy these foods too.

There is incredible flavor to be found in clean, whole foods. Sometimes it’s knowing how to cook or season them. Sometimes it’s getting all of the processed flavors out of the way so you can actually enjoy the flavor naturally found in food.

8) We hate (excuse me, strongly dislike) diet foods.

Low-sugar ice cream and low-calorie breads have no place in our homes or our recommendations to our clients. We eat the real deal and enjoy it.

9) Our education goes beyond diet books. In fact, we don’t read diet books.

We study the body – anatomy, physiology, chemistry. We study psychology – behavior change, habit formation, motivation. We look at the research and learn from scientists and other dietitians. We turn that information into practical and realistic advice for you.

10) We don’t live or die by our macros.

We eat to fuel our bodies and listen to things like hunger and energy levels to determine what/when to eat.
